Honestly sending kids to private school is bad for their social development unless the public schools are like literally unsafe

Highly dependent on where you live. Even the "best" public schools in some areas are no better than dropping kids off at daycare.

@AHB i don't know about this. Sure public schools in general are not great, went to one with gang fights outside everyday in one of the poorest states. We still had AP classes just fine.

    Holy shit.

Let's consider the fact that government and pre tax deductions take away half your income.

You are basically paying your entire post-tax income to all this shit. Private school? Really?

1000 on entertainment better mean there are some great stripers in there

2000 for groceries! Are you eating caviar??

I dont think 2k a month is that much. I remember my wife and i spent 1k a month but we didnt go out to eat much. Organics and nongmo crap are indeed pretty costly. But i gotta tell you we got chubby after few months and cut down the cost to about 600-700 a month.

    • Agreed, food in Seattle is expensive, esp if you're shopping at a co op.

I am surprised that people are surprised at these expenses. Must note that mortgage in that list partly includes saving as it builds equity in the home.

Our combined TC is about 850K and we spend about 30-33K/month in Bay Area without kids (but we support my and wife’s parents’ expenses)

We love to travel a lot and spend $ on experiences and don’t care if we save anything or not. The money that we enjoy in our 20s/30s is worth more than 10x at 60. At least for us.

Will we have a mansion, a corvette or a massive passive income in retirement? No way.

Will we have amazing stories to reminisce at 40s/50s in our mid sized home? Hell yes.

Parents are here in the US. Their medical insurance is very high but doesn't matter to us.

I feel you on the parents thing. My girlfriend's parents worked in factory/warehouse their whole lives and now that we have money to help them travel, their bodies are giving out on them in their mid 50s. It severely limits their options since they can't walk/bike very much.

Being able to travel in your 20s and 30s is infinitely preferable to traveling at 55+. Even if you work a desk job and maintain some mobility, you won't have the same energy as you did in your 20s.
