About to talk to recruiter about offer numbers for principal engineer position. I've 11 yoe and interview loop as per feedback was solid. I was asked to come up expected number for base (recruiter said bonus is 15-20% of base for principal) and rsu. Does 200k base with 800k in rsu over 4 years in a good ballpark or am I asking too much? How much more less or more would be in a good ballpark.
Wow didn't know splunk can pay that much!!
Splunk was highest paid for SWE last year I believe. https://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/news/2018/09/20/top-paying-tech-companies-fb-goog-splunk-splk-intc.html
We’ve always paid very competitive TC.
Agreed. The recruiter is giving you a runaround. The first to name a figure in any negotiation is the one who cedes leverage. Tell the recruiter you’re confident that the hiring manager will come up an enticing offer and that you’ll consider it in light of your other options.
Oh, and in response to Cjqc41: remember that you’ll be working for a hiring manager, not a recruiter. It’s unfortunate that the recruiter’s car-salesman’s behavior reflects badly on Splunk, but if I had a dollar for every time I’ve been disappointed by recruiters over the years, I wouldn’t have to work anymore—here or anywhere else.
So Splunk hires their Principals from American Express? Ouch. 😂
I also have a L6 offer with Amazon 🤪. I'm not too keen on it because of many things people here talk about. Blind made me realize how grossly underpaid I'm for my experience and skillset.
^ this LMAO
You can go well above 200k for base. For RSUs, the days of outsized stock are over. I think it’ll be between 400k - 500k.
sounds right. with 15-20% bonus that indicates splunk does not pay well. (should be 25%). so the low base and RSU you cited are in line with that. (principal should be $750-$1mm TC at an SV tech company of their size)
from levels.fyi, principal TC at Microsoft is 287k Facebook E6 is 554k Amazon is 519k Seems most if the industry is paying in 500k range. Where did you get $1mm from?
DvVM00’s numbers are off by factor of 2. Believing too many of the unverified pumped-up figures posted by boastful people here, no doubt. Principal = L5 here. Sr. Principal = L6. We have maybe two dozen L6 individual contributors out of headcount 1000 in our Products R&D engineering. And there are fewer L7s. They’re the $1M+ folks.
How much did you end up getting?
It’s in this post https://us.teamblind.com/s/SC6n5gmY
They must tell the Numbers
