both locations are great and have different missions with design teams on site. I would ask the recruiter to tell you about which missions we do where and decide after
Thanks! 😄(it's schwifty)
Depending on where you're from, relocating to another country can be quite the challenge or adventure
Is comp actually the same? Usually it's dramatically lower outside of the US regardless of CoL.
Stockholm companies pay awful
but that time off tho
You can get roughly the same in the US. I take more time off at Pinterest than you get in Sweden.
Think about pay difference. Sweden's average pay is way lower than NYC's. However benefits outweigh pay... at least for some. Moving within company/teams is encouraged as long as you find suitable role and so you don't have to decide/worry now...
Thanks I'm definitely leaning towards NYC. If you don't mind me asking what team are you on and how have you found it so far?
I know this is an old question but I'll answer anyways as more people could find this later: I'm in Stockholm and you either love it or hate it (I love it). The pay is way lower than in NYC, but even so the quality of life is better, IMO, specially if you have family. People with some political views might not like this, but Sweden takes care of many things for you. Swedish people are very different from Americans. They're quiet and don't care about status, so in my opinion there's more collaboration and less competition. Stockholm is a city where everything just works (tm) and for some it can be boring, but again, for the right people it's perfect. In Spotify, specifically, if you're an engineer Stockholm has the meaty part of infra, SDKs, hardware and partner integrations, some core functionalities and business related stuff such as revenue and internal finance systems. NYC has machine learning, ads and "Creator" that's where we build stuff for artists. Those lists are not exhaustive but can give you an idea. But the company culture is quite similar in both offices. There are some slight differences but the core values are the same, and I think they are good values. I don't think Spotify NYC hires from outside US, due to the H1B bullshit (it transfers H1B though) but if you're already in the US it should be fine.
+1. Any idea on Stockholm pay?
Have you been to Stockholm? That should give you all the answer you need. It's perfect for the right person, otherwise NYC.
No I haven't, just NYC (Canadian here) so I'm curious!
