I have a Spotify onsite for Data Engineer coming up in a week. What to expect for the Data round? Any other tips about other rounds are appreciated too. Thanks!
“Data” interviews typically involve solving a real-world problem involving combining a few data sets and doing some aggregations. There are usually some types of optimizations that can be made, and you need to explain how it will work at scale. SQL is acceptable but for the Data Engineer role you’d be better off using some kind of big data tool like spark or anything in the Hadoop ecosystem (or even better but not expected: beam/dataflow). If you want to do some pre-reading about what we use internally, check out Scio on the Spotify github.
You will asked to find the root cause of an actual problem that they faced, ds is average , system design is simple. I had an offer a month back.
Do they also ask sql queries? How was the offer? Did you take it?
For me it was mix of backend and data role, sql queries were asked in system design. Offer was around ~80k euros, I had better offers, so I didnt took spotify.
