Hi all, I have a first-round Frontend interview coming up for Square in a few days and was wondering if I could get some insight into the types of questions to expect. I was told it'd be a practical JavaScript question but wanted to know if anyone had some examples I can practice prior to the interview. Anything would be helpful because I would love to work there. Thanks in advance! #Square #software #interview #frontend
Square did an active moving away from LC questions. Any new developer that goes through training has to come up with a new question, or take over an old one. They also get a few developers to test it out on. Ideally, each question should be unique and have 2-4 parts to it. It'll be to build something to start, then iterate on it. Imagine building a simple calculator app with the add/sub/mult/divide functions. Then adding more complicated functions on top of that (abstract example). The point isn't to have a "build an LRU cache" question.
How was the interview? Any pointers for people interviewing there soon in UI?
Pretty sure not everyone gets the same exercise but mine was a To-Do list with 3 tasks that involved fixing minor bugs and then adding some new functionality. A lot of code was already provided so it took a little while to understand what was given and what needed to be developed. There were also bonus tasks in case you have time. Unfortunately, they said no to me even though I finished all 3 required tasks. I didn’t have enough time for the bonus tasks so idk if that had something to do with their decision not to move on. Overall, it wasn’t too bad but I’m sad that I don’t know where I went wrong since nobody provides feedback these days.
Thank you 🙏 and best of luck with your future interviews!
LC
Was told first round is a practical exercise, so don’t think it’d be a LC problem.
It’s not LC at all. It’s a very practical question that you should be able to do without studying at all- it’s all the type of thing you’d do in your day-to-day work as a frontend engineer.
