I have finished interviews with Square, Toronto for Cash App L5 level backend developer. I am based out of India and current TC is 80k USD a year, having 9 years of experience. How much TC I can expect with Square?
Do not move to Toronto, your TC is really high in India.
OP god_legacy@msft is right. I am on H1B 7yoe and I am planning Canada & follow above strategy. Also standard of living is better than India
Mind sharing why you’re moving to Canada?
+1 for sharing the reason to move to Canada.
If your main aim to move is to get citizenship then move... And get it and it opens doors for you to many countries and you can move easily to US or wherever without visa issues... But yeah stick to square for those few years in Toronto..not many big tech companies in Toronto.. the local companies/startups are a joke ..
I'll answer your question since everyone's telling you to go to the US and not actually giving you numbers. (Though I agree with their assessments about comp compared to Canada). I make 195 TC at the same level but with half your experience in Toronto. Kind of surprised you were assessed at L5 instead of L6 given that.
Thanks for the info 1. Is the interview process different for L5 and L6? Can i still push for L6, since interviews went pretty well? 2. Can you please provide the breakup of your TC? 3. How is the culture and overall spirit?
I can't say whether the interview process is different unfortunately. I think it's more based on your years of experience plus what they gauge you at, for technical roles. Can't say for sure though. TC breakup is 145/120 (USD)/10 The culture is pretty good. It's more slow moving than other places I've been at but it's been a positive experience overall.
What was the interview like?
Four coding rounds, leetcode medium type questions but customised. You are supposed to make the code run with different outputs, handle edge cases etc. One design round which is common hotel booking website. Focus was mainly on booking and reservation side of it. One behaviour round , standard like google facebook
did u get offer on this?
80k in India and you wanna go to Canada! You will regret it
What could be the reasons?
Canada TC are lower than US. Toronto is high CoL, housing prices are insane and not comparable to even high salaries. High taxes in Canada. Harsh weather in Toronto. Opportunities are limited in Canada, most of tech is in US. India has more options than Canada for tech jobs, specially since you are already at high position which it seems you are. 80K USD in India is very high PPP. If you can come to US then it's a different conversation, come to Microsoft US
