Just got an ML Engineering offer from Square for ($CAD) 190K TC in Toronto as an L5 Seems a little low to me, given that Amazon gave a verbal offer for ~220K as just an SDE 2 with no ML knowledge required Does Square just pay poorly in Canada? I see their SF ranges are all around USD 320K+ for the same level YOE: 4 #square #amazon

Square is a pass in Toronto if you have other offers. They’re just trying to get people for as low as possible. Don’t let them do it, especially not for ML.

I can’t speak about the talent in Square Toronto, but if the rational actors theory of economics holds, then I’m sure those who can pass Square’s interview would probably be elsewhere for better pay.

Yup, that’s pretty much what square would offer for L5 position. Pretty cheap offer honestly despite the culture, WLB, etc, seem very positive.
