Also, if you think the difference between Square and Stripe is in-person vs online payments, I agree with the comment before me that you don't understand what square does. Square provides a variety of easy-to-use and deeply integrated seller products (payments, POS, lending product, payroll software, inventory software, e-commerce software, etc.) plus a consumer P2P payments app (Cash App) whose potential for integration into the seller ecosystem hasn't even come close to being fully realized yet.
You can do all that stuff with Stripe, but you have to build it yourself with the APIs. Again, I'm not saying one model is better than the other; they serve different niches. But "in-person" vs. "online" is a disingenuous comparison.
I wonder if they think operating aa a bank will hinder their cash app translations as they might be under higher scrutiny
