Hi finance community,
I have been given a heads up from recruiters that I will be given business cases to analyze and generate excel modeling as part of the interviewing process. Does anyone have any advice for what an SFA candidate can expect in terms of the question/business case and the types of analysis required? Feeling super nervous.

Thank you!

My guess would be modeling out a P&L from a data set and then giving insights/steps to take based off conclusions you draw from model.

From my experience the modeling part can be a PIA for big tech assessments, but if you put in the time the insights you can pull from it are obvious.

That’s just my experience so YMMV

Depends on the company. I’ve been given 2yr of a p&l & told to model out years 3-4 (really lame & no direction) but also given great raw datasets and asked to just poke around. If the latter there is probably some issue with the data they want you to find or some major trend reversal you should call out etc. for example I did a retention analysis for vimeo that had a random month where retention went up for a certain cohort group when it should’ve been technically impossible.
