i hate my current role at Amazon. i joined as a senior pm 8 months ago and struggle with knowing all the systems, design, and solutions as well as each business. I can identify gaps but struggle with how to fix them. also, so many tech stacks and silos. Suggestions on what to do? i have 14 yoe prior to this. I feel i am being pulled in so many directions at amazon and dont have a deep understanding of anything.
Did you ask for help? Do you have clear understanding of what is expected from you? Also - TC or GTFO
TC: $250k l6 I feel like I have no idea what I am doing or responsible for. I attend many meetings and try my best to provide direction however am always unsure. I am confident in my meetings but inside I have no idea what I am doing. I’ve tried asking for help to understand but everyone is also new
It’s normal buddy. Just focus on each project and develop depth in that area versus trying to understand the full picture right at the start. In a while you’ll feel better
It can be a mess. Worse is that nothing is documented -well- and people don’t have the time to walk you through things. Make friends with the BI folks and get on their good side
Take it on yourself to start at the top then deep dive and document each component. You will then become the expert and show great deliverdd value with the resulting docs.
L6 with 250k ? Way low balled. If you don’t like the position, time to vote with your feet now.
But that’s the job of a PM - to connect the dots, and gain and provide clarity across multiple systems. If you want to not get pulled into multiple directions, engineering may be better for you.
