If you're optimizing for tech + money, big bank is the wrong move of course. But doesn't matter as long as you like what you do.
Jamie sounds like he wants to force everyone back into an office so I'd guess you should keep an eye on that and see how it fits with your life goals.
Big tech company EMs don't code or do SD even though they are part of the interview loop. Most of my life is recruiting, team health, planning, etc. Pure overhead lol.
Fwiw I'm ex-jpmc (not at Amazon anymore either). If you have find a pocket in there that gives you what you want, stay there and enjoy life, my friend.
If you still code, large tech companies might try to level you as a staff engineer or line manager. Startups will be easier to join purely as an EM or next of tech lead and manager.
