Everyone knows the story of Lyft's IPO tax disaster so I'll spare you that. Post ipo performance was poor so it wasn't as much of a windfall as expected and I sold all my stock after lockup to diversify. Still, with the recent stock run-up, my TC is >500k at T6. The whole ipo experience left a bad taste yet I often think of joining another pre-ipo company. I enjoy my job but seeing all the recent IPO windfalls at other companies is distracting. My TC should be stable for the next couple of years with unvested stock. Does it make sense to chase another IPO with a big TC cut? I assume most pre-IPO companies won't pay >500k for staff. For context I left a 300k tc job to chase Lyft IPO a few years ago.
