I’m e6 in Fb(was promoted in the last psc). I got an invite for an interview with LinkedIn for staff eng(which is e5 compared to Fb - levels.fyi). I asked them if they have positions for senior staff, which seems to be e6 equivalent, but they told me they cannot do that because of my EOY. Is it just recruiter bullshit or is it a real thing in LinkedIn? tc:420, yoe:10 if there are senior LinkedIn eng willing to chat in private on Blind - I’d really appreciate it
Hold your ground. If they want you, they have to meet your requirements. You have a good thing going. They need to account for that. I'm assuming you like working at FB. If you're trying desperately to get out, that complicates things. And remember: NEVER, EVER DISCLOSE YOUR TC.
You have E6 at FB, clearly based on merit since you were promoted, and LinkedIn is trying to down-level you purely based on YOE? That's insane and should make you question your decision to consider LinkedIn in the first place.
Because of end of year?
I had a great recruiter, I just couldn’t pass the interview lol. Edit: looks like that struck a nerve
E6 is not comparable to Sr Staff in LinkedIn. Sr Staff is extremely hard to achieve in LI and rarely recruit from outside. You need to have some serious great successful record, or being the lead in certain domain in order to be hired as Sr Staff. You can negotiate to close 500k TC for Staff offer. But it is very unlikely to start Sr Staff process with you.
Thanks for explaining. But I’m not sure why E6ish person would like to go to LI with 500k? With my first refresher it will be 460-480 depending on the result of h2. With all the uncertainty and inflexibility after the move, I don’t think 20k/year pretax is worth it...
The point of Sr Staff hiring is not to hire “E6ish person”. It is simply that this level in LI is considered as senior technical leader in the org and requires serious technical leadership at scale. It is not a simple level mapping stuff when comes to external hoeing, but in general it needs the candidate to be “high profile”
What’s their YOE requirement for staff? I’m hoping to get LI staff in a couple years.
According to Paysa, even directors make around 450k at Linkedin. How much would a senior staff or director actually make on average?
I moved from LinkedIn staff to e6. There is a huge gap in expectations. It's a big downgrade if you make that move.
Why in tarnation would yo go from FB to LinkedIn
Maybe op wants to chill
