Been watching a lot of videos on YouTube and going through my old school things. Feeling like a lot of dots are connecting. But also, now I'm terrified that this is going to hamstring me in my new job. Shit. Ever happen to you?
What difference does it make to label yourself?
I agree on one hand. On the other, labels can help if it explains something about yourself you couldn't previously understand, or helps you make progress in an area where you've struggled.
I have a non-verbal 10 year old and never use that word or any other label. It’s a serious question...
Just remember that whatever you discover about yourself was already true before you knew it. You've made it this far in life without understanding that part of yourself, so learning more about how you work and what's worked for other people in your situation can only make things better for you, not worse.
Nothing wrong with it. It brought you where you are. Makes you ideally suited to work as a SWE, quantitative analyst, trader, etc.
What are some things you’re noticing? I feel like I might be too... highly functioning but on the spectrum for sure.
So smart I get bored easily. Procrastinating like a mofo but the I'm able to pull something off at the last minute because of my smarts. Some kinds of humor fly right over my head, and I take the person seriously to grave misunderstanding. Overstimulated by noises. Overstimulation leads to outbursts of emotion (usually that I had and run home to release). Analytical to the point that identify my feelings is A Process. Knowing a lot of little boring details about a lot of things but completely forgetting small stuff like your favorite shampoo. It goes on.
Definitely something to worry about if you are a man and you now think you might be a woman
Can you imagine if he go through surgery , and then regrets it....
I am a woman. Women on the spectrum present symptoms differently. Hence my inclusion of that information
Don't be terrified. If you've diagnosed it, it means you know where to look for help. There are doctors, therapists, or psychologists who have far more knowledge and experience in dealing with similar cases than you do. If you need help, get it. I suspect I'm on the spectrum too, but I'm fine with it and can handle it myself.
No offense OP, but , to think that this kind of people may be interviewing you for a position you have been studying and preparing so hard for months..... we, the people from non-FAANG companies trying to get in, are completely f*cked and hopeless.
Think you're in the wrong post.

It's not uncommon for software engineers to be somewhere on the spectrum. It's not a negative, and could be a positive for your role.
I'm worried about the negative sides which are pretty bad when you're a woman: the social awkwardness is less acceptable, the procrastination even though you can do the work then pulling something amazing out of your butt at the last minute. I've a lot of stress and anxiety. I need better coping skills than I've learned. And engineering is a small part of what I do 😔
I hear you. It's definitely not easy. I would suggest that you follow up with a psychologist. You may or may not have Asperger's. Other diagnoses look similar to Asperger's. ADHD meds might do you wonders.
