I get around 130k in ohio and i got an offer for 165k plus 25k equity from a startup in SF. Suggest please, is it a good move? Startup is about to start making money and it has around 50 employees.
130k in Ohio is like $400k in the bay.
Unironically.
YOE? Is that stock options?
Many factors. Are you on a visa? New TC is low compared to your current TC in Ohio. Having said that, SF will give you opportunities to switch and grow your TC. Weather is a plus in SF too. If you are single then it's a no brainer to move to SF.
Might be a good move for your career, but you are losing money.
Yeah if it’s an okay startup and if OP wants to end up out in the SF Bay Area it might be worth to take the pay cut to just move out here. Then a year or two find another better job while already out here.
Depends on the startup... are they well funded? Which company? And cost of living in SF is much higher than Ohio.
Stay put
It's a terrible move. A third of that $35k is gone to taxes. That's a $23k net bump. Your rent will easily jump $1500 a month, which is $18k. Is a $5k net bump worth it to change jobs and move states?
Nice breakdown 👍🏽 based on this, I wouldn’t make the jump unless the base offer was like 190-200k
A few more things: food and everything else will cost more, double is most likely. If anyone of you own a home before moving to SF, then your housing alone will be extra 60k min.
