Location: East coast
YOE: almost 3
Current TC: 85k
No h1b concerns, citizen.

Have a blockchain startup offer for 100k base + equity (would be employee #21).

Current company counter offered with salary match, plus promotion. TC would be around 120k with bonus + current RSU’s, 401k match. I have a good relationship with my current manager + promotion was approved by VP.

Not super sold on a blockchain startup but think the work experience would help me grow faster. Working at something more stable with higher TC during pandemic seems nice + I’m still learning. But reading all the negative counter offer posts has me worried.

So your company already knows that you are thinking of leaving?

Then if there is a layoff, you could be the next target. But obviously it depends on how much your team needs you.

Anyway, the TC increase definitely looks good. But it also raises questions. if you didn't get an offer, would your manager increase your TC? How much does your team or manager actually appreciate you?

I have no illusions that I’m some amazing rockstar dev, but of course they make it seem like I’m a valued member of the team. Currently promotions + salary raises are stopped (clearly not the case) for first two quarters due COVID and q4 earnings, so they had to get hr, vp approval, etc. I’m not sure they would go through all this just to fire me? But I guess that could also just be my overall inexperience in this industry lol.
