Any suggestions if I should opt for startup (never worked in startup env. - series c/d) or opt for workday . Compensation wise both touching 200k [total compensation]
Not really a fan of workday they seem to like killing their acquisitions even if they're still viable and have paying customers (like Platfora). This might be okay while they're still ascending, but when things inevitably get tighter they're going to wish they didn't leave money on the table.
Thanks for perspective!
Depends on the work, but I say go for workday. The startup TC should be higher if it includes option, considering the risk.
This depends a lot on what your current situation is. Startups carry more risk but also the potential for more reward. Are you later in your career? Spouse/partner? Have kids? A mortgage? Other financial responsibilities? If the answer is no to all/most of these then you’re in a good position to roll the dice with a startup. Follow your gut.
Well my answer is yes to most ; 13+ yrs experience; I am leaning towards startup given potential to learn more, but as you pointed out risk is there. I understand no risk no rewards. My problem is I am on h1b which makes me want to join big companies (don’t know the reason)
I also always wanted to work at startup but since I am on H1B I stick to big companies, if things go south they atleast can transfer to another country, etc
Have heard really bad things about workday. Might obviously be biased because it came from former employees. Do some research maybe?
Can you please gives some pointers
This is 100% heard from other people so grain of salt please, but I heard that their product development process is broken. No one truly wants to change anything, which is mostly true for enterprise anyway. A lot of their initial employees have risen to high levels within the company, so no training but big ideas lead to shitty execution. I think they will do well for a while till a smaller more nimble competitor emerges.
The way I see it is that it depends a lot on team and position.... and the startup... questions can’t be answered without specifics. Every large company that is doing well has good people and good teams but there’s also terrible people/team hiding in the mix.
workday definitely 🚀
