After graduating I went with a mid-size startup (MSFT was internship) and while things are pretty chill, I want to move to a company that has harder engineering problems. However, it feels like the best time to get into interesting companies is either as a new grad or after many YoE (the job postings usually say 5+). I’m looking at companies like Dropbox, Lyft, Uber, Square, Stripe, Plaid, Venmo, Braintree, and Pure Storage. Do these and similar companies generally interview people with only 1 YoE? Should I even bother with applying online or just message recruiters on LinkedIn? I’m currently doing mostly backend development. TC 160k
What don’t just apply? The market will tell you.
I just started preparing for algorithms and would likely fail any phone screen currently
You’re still a new grad
Getting interviews with 1 YOE was much easier than I expected and increasingly easier as I refined my resume. I got interviews with Lyft, Affirm, Flexport, and other big startups just applying online without referral. I recommend turning on your "casually looking" setting on LinkedIn!
I got into AMZ with less than 1 yoe so you good
