I was downleveled to L3 when I joined Google. A year later I was promoted to L4.

I had an FB L4 offer a year ago that I declined. It was recently reinstated about a few months ago which I accepted but I accepted before the promo but pushed my start date to January.

Now Google with stock refresh and promo now matches FB offer and FB is only higher because of the sign on bonus of 75k.

Should I still leave to FB? I am worried about FB reputation but I like the freedom of movement I get with FB. My team at Google has so much hardware, it’s hard to travel even with wfh/pandemic. Also my manager said I could reach L5 next fall but I am just feeling really burnt out given the way I joined. Thinking leaving to another company would give me a mental refresh, plus I am keen on the vr team at Facebook.
Any advice please?

      It’s hard to do so because the work load keeps increasing. I am now the sole engineer for the new project and team when we were previously two eng. Project manager also moved to another team and gave me the work for project management too. Plus bugs from prior project and QA reaching out all the time with bugs. I am responsible for two prior projects and one new one, plus project management and I keep getting new bugs assigned to me from prior work done before I joined. My ldap is also attached to the bug component so every new bug is automatically assigned to me. I have mentioned this to my manager that we need more head count and he keeps saying we can just push the timelines back but it is overwhelming as I can’t even focus on the new project without the prior project and bugs cropping up.

  • accept FB. Your manager is lying about an L5 promo in a year. And with the work stacking, it doesn't sound like he/she is a good manager either.
