L4 staff from stripe : 240base, 325k rsu per yr

Google 215base, unvested at 1.15M (3.5 yrs left)

Does stripe negotiate on base and yearly rsu components?

Don't go to stripe while they have the 1 year vesting cliff

"I don't see any reason for an already established company to adopt this approach"

Look at the stock growth of all of big tech over the last 4 years, employees are getting paid much more due to stock appreciation than the company expected, so they can save on this if they re-evaluate your target comp every year and give you the exact number of RSUs to get to that target comp. Especially for a rocket ship IPO like Stripe that's strongly limiting the upside. Still a tier-1 company rn, I just see a world where other companies adapt because they can save a lot of money seeing that everyone still wants to work at Stripe and it hurts the whole industry.

Agreed that OP needs to do what's best for themselves and that very well might be to join Stripe given that they're underpaid at Google and Stripe's potential upside.

Save money? How does this save money for the company? That entire view is predicated on it somehow saving money for them...how? Just think on it for a bit and you see that makes no sense. There is 0 reason for an already established company to do a 1 year vest.

You realize that Stripe upside is capped, right? IMO you’d be a fool to leave so much Google equity on the table.

Have you spoken to Xooglers at Stripe? I know at least 2 who don’t like it at all and regret joining.

They will not negotiate base or equity (something about pay equality) but they can move pretty big on signon. Also congrats on the offer. Will see you there 😎
