My current comp is ~220k at Zillow with 8 yoe, in a fairly specialized role. I got an offer from square for about ~380k. When I gave my notice, my manager told me they would make an exception to match my comp if I stayed at Zillow. I was really surprised by this and always assumed that was unattainable here. It would be really out of band for my role at Zillow. My current wlb is really good, manager is good, the work could be a little better, and if feels like I haven't been learning or have pushed myself as much as I used to. Staying would result in a big jump in comp with little risk though. At Square, I feel like there will be more room for growth, the company is doing better, I'll feel more challenged/motivated, it will look better on my resume, etc.
What role? ML?
Now, your manager knows that You want to move and not a loyal employee anymore. Even if you stay, sooner or later they will find replacement for you, and give a pink slip to you..
Take the extra comp, enjoy the wlb, take the $ and invest in hobbies etc. build a revenue stream outside of work.
You say you like the square job more. Go there.
What's your level and location?
Which team at Square? DM me if you want and I can share about the team do you can make a good decision. Not all teams at Square are good - like any big company.
What level are you at square?
It depends on the team and office. Is it Seattle?
You were kind enough to provide your TC, so I will be kind enough to tell you to GTFO. Z ain’t worth it.
Dude I hope that you get fired.
lol. There is literally zero chance of that happening.
Depends if you value wlb or grinding for more
