Steiner Ranch in Austin

We are planning to move to that area in Austin, it’s a family oriented place to live, what do you think about that specific area?

it's a great place to live

It's a beautiful area of town. Depending on where you're working, the commute might be a pain though. But as far as family oriented places to live, it's one of the best.

To be fair - they have been saying this since the early 90s.

Sorry to hijack your thread, OP. What are some of the places equivalent to steiner ranch in Bellevue, Redmond, Seattle?

Google blind.io OP May 17, 2018

Good question, I’ve never been to Washington, so I can’t comment on that, just wanted to say that Steiner Ranch is kind of unique in the sense that is a master community composed of multiple communities, I haven’t found one in California yet.

Thanks, Yes Steiner ranch is a great place to be in.

Traffic can be horrendous in that area, but you could say the same about most of austin

Google blind.io OP May 16, 2018

How do you think it is the traffic from Steiner Ranch to the Domain? Looks like it’s around 30-45 minutes, I was reading this article: http://www.city-data.com/forum/austin/968730-steiner-ranch-commute-domain-downtown.html

Do you live in Austin? I was wondering how is the traffic from Steiner Ranch to Apple (Riata Vista Circle).

I make that same commute! In the mornings it’s a little rough but if you leave by 7 it’s not too bad. Afternoon you can take back roads and it’s easier. It’s not bad in grand scheme. 183 is much better than mopac so you should be good

If you are morning person, then it's fine... Make sure you cross 2222 & 620 intersection before 8 and 4 (when coming back)... Otherwise it's a nice place with good schools Living there for last 4 years..

BTW, how many Amazon offices does Austin have? are you working from the domain? I read Amazon has an office there.

Love it!! But here's why. Most tech with family lives here and so the schools have INCREDIBLE robotics, destination imagination, and entrepreneurial programs. Investors live out this way (many in Steiner), so if you're startup tech, this is a great place to be... Or Riverplace, West Lake. There is a community tech meetup that tends to include the region so you get a few of the incubators, investors, etc. therein out of the downtown bubble. Nearby: BigCommerce, Samsung, Indeed, Spiceworks, Apple... Off the top of my head. Plus closer to Domain (IBM, EA, HomeAway, Bazaarvoice, Magento) and West side of Downtown (Galvanize, Google, Facebook), and 360 (where most VCS office). Downside, downtown is a hike but most serious tech and startup isn't there even though it promotes well that it seems to be. What I really love about it is the 2222 Hill. It's like a separation. Down the hill is work. Up the hill is home: family, friends, Lake, and hills. It's a small slice of Austin where people are permanent so you get to know everyone (if you want).
