I heard main reason tech/start up companies are preferred by employees is because they offer stock options or RSU to employees. I thought that only applied to engineers or high ranked positions. Am I wrong with that statement? I had offer from non tech/Forbes 100 companies, but they never had any stock options in their package. So I'm curious whether those companies do have edge in their comp package (even with similar base salary) because of the stock options and etc. Can anyone in Finance/Accounting department at those companies help out?
You get them at any level in tech
That is a good news to hear. Ill definitely keep that in my mind when I make the next move. Silly that I thought it was only for the engineers.
Nope but it really varies. My first tech finance role only offered $50k over 4 years but my most recent role was $200k over 4 years (excluding refreshers)
In finance and have gotten them throughout my career. Try to negotiate them
Def worth negotiating for. Although I'd heavily discount the value of options at start-ups...
I heard some startups go out of business before the vesting period lol i guess high risk high return
You were too low on the ladder. Climb a little then RSUs will flow in almost any firm. Patience is a virtue
I see. So it is unlikely that someone with less experience will get those benefits. Seems like a long way to go.
Not as long as you think but yes it takes time
