My close friend is having a baby I wanted to gift the baby 1k worth of stocks. Is there an cost effective way of doing that? Any advice? Thx
Gift to their 529?
Was gonna say this
Can’t gift stock directly to 529, would have to liquidate first. If they have a UTMA you could transfer stock directly
Your friend is a kangaroo?
If yours is COVID-19, could you have it killed?😂
Can I recommend gifting literal cash to the parents instead? It will cost you the same and the parents will be grateful because getting cash = less stress about buying an expensive stroller. They will also not feel belittled by your magnanimous gesture
Lol, what. Let him give whatever he wants. Clearly the parents ain't poor so your point is moot
I would feel strange about accepting money as gift. Gift card is OK, it has to represent some meaning...
Probably very old school idea - Get your broker to issue physical certificates and hand it over to the recipient. Would involve some fee though
Yeah I could but I think that’s pretty costly...
Plus more paperwork for them too, whenever they sell it.
Please help me. I am bankruptcy
Hi bankruptcy, I am debt

You must really like your friend. I can’t imagine shelling out 1,000. Good on you - start a 529 in their name
Wow, I don't earn much but I think i'll do it.
OP could be making half a mil a year, I'd give my best friends baby a grand in stocks and I don't even make 75k
hey, it's me your friend's baby
Tc?
