Strategies for not getting onsite cancelled

I booked interview with a company one Tuesday for next Monday. The interview was scheduled and confirmed. I know all rounds, who are interviewing me, times etc. Friday the guy tells me someone accepted the offer. And cancels the on-site. Sorry, I can’t share the company name but it is a big company in bay-area.( It probably has recruiters on blind.) What can I do in future to avoid this from happening? Why are people still interviewing other guys for a position when they have already offered someone the role?

Recruiters need to keep their pipeline full. They might have kept you as a backup in case the guy they really wanted did not accept the role. Be happy that at least they were honest with you. If they decided to interview you, despite selecting someone, it would have been a waste of time for everyone involved.

Is there anything I can do to avoid this? This is a waste of time on my part. The “guy they really wanted”, I nailed the previous round. The recruiter contacted me 30 mins after I ended phone interview for on-site.

What they should have done is asked if you are open to other teams and kept the interview. They could have assessed you for the role you were interviewing for and then passed your info and feedback to another team you were interested. Bottom line: no company should ever do this. DM me if you’re interested in Amazon.

Never happen to me. I think you dodged a bullet there.

No man. There’s nothing wrong with company. It is recruiter in this case I think so.

How can a recruiter get away with that on their own? Unless they are pretending to schedule interviews, they have to confrim with people and get things setup. Then again I could 100% wrong.
