I’m in a somewhat niche role at Meta, and I’ve been trying to leave for a while. So far, I’ve made it to final rounds at a few companies, but I’ve never gotten an offer.
A couple of weeks ago, I had an on-site with another FAANG company for a position that would have been a perfect fit. I thought a few of the interviews were the best I’d had, just felt very good about the whole thing.
They told me the day before Christmas Eve that they weren’t moving forward, and to be honest, I’ve been completely gutted. This is faaaaaaar from my first rejection, but for some reason I just feel completely defeated and broken by this. With all my previous rejections, I was sad for a few minutes and then dusted myself off. But with this one, I’ve just been stuck in this pit of despair.
Has anyone else had the experience of suddenly being devastated by a job rejection? I feel embarrassed and surprised, because, again, I’ve done this a lot and rejection is nothing new.
