Most consumers are only interested in 2-3 shows from one provider. Example: ppl subscribing to Netflix for a month to binge watch stranger things and those subscribing to Hotstar to watch World cup live stream. These are temporary subscriptions lasting for a month or two. Consumers need a new subscription model, where they can subscribe to few shows from any streaming service they are interested in, via one app, like tv. Thoughts?
It’s been around for a while but CableTV™️
😂
It will be a killer app but it won’t happen. Cos —> Content rights , studio contracts and profit sharing.
We need someone to do the right calculations and negotiations for profit sharing. At least some services would come to an agreement.
PirateBay?
Buy the whole fucking series if you are going to watch it that much.
Look at this video. Countries like India have 50+ streaming services and the number rising every day. https://youtu.be/BO0FlrveCts
Android media box. Look it up, it's solved this problem already. It's streaming bit torrent
I bet Netflix started with that very same idea.. But content rights screwed them. They tried to revolutionize cable TV and ended up becoming an expensive on demand channel.
That's why they tried to move into producing their own content
The industry is moving in the opposite direction. Asshole companies pulling out their content from netflix because shitty laws allow them and trying to make their own streaming service and charge a subscription for it. See Disney
Revenue sharing with the vendor is a big NO NO. Period. (Looking at you apple !)
Will never happen. See: content rights
The content right still stays with Netflix. They are using a 3rd party app to provide their content, instead of their own app. Kind of like the channel system on cable tv and a 3rd party cable TV provider.
That’s the point, it would never happen. if you’re a content owner who has licensed something out to a service, why would you want another app to be able to play it?
