Always scared and worried around the clock of getting a pip plan, a LE rating, deadlines pushed earlier I couldn't meet. It was a constant state of stress I couldn't even sleep properly anymore. Late night pings and coworkers working round the clock meant everyone needed to do the same or fall "behind" in managers eyes. Couldn't even switch teams because I was slaped on dev list. All the micromanaging from the toxic and unsupportive manager made it living hell. (Constant asking for updates, meetings multiple times a day, always just negativity and snide remarks on 1 on 1s, threatening me when I ask to take time off). Also the toxic coworkers and culture just made it unbearable (ask question = ignored, figure it out yourself, or get linked to unrelated post. CRs ignored, purposely adding new picky comments to force increased CR revision count, fake and negative feedback to manager, blaming others in meetings, stealing credit ,not giving credit when due, stealing ideas, racial jokes (team was all one race that I wasn't) ). I worked at a few companies including google and verizon prior and can personally say amazon is hands down the worst company for a swe. I don't even understand how college kids consider it a "big n" or "big 4". It's only good 9!a stock portfolio or for shopping as a customer, nothing more Culture is disgusting and unbearable. My team may have been particularly bad, but the toxic "day 1" culture is prevalent in the sh1th*** that is amazon engineering #engineering #wfh
You still joined it knowing all
Welcome to Amazon. Similar experience here and I’m leaving.
Which org?
1. Switch teams 2. Leave Life is too short to waste working at a place that brings you this much stress when we have the privilege of moving
There is indeed a sucker born every minute. The one that ignores Blinds advice about not working for Amazon, only to end up reaffirming it.
Sounds like hell on earth honestly for a SWE. I'm starting to think if I was jobless and looking work a job and I got an offer from Amazon, I'd keep searching for another offer and stay jobless a little longer lol
Really?
So I thought about it and I see it like this. If I was only jobless for a month and amazon was the first offer I got, Id risk it and keep applying, shopping around but if I was 6 months deep and eating only ramen noodles I'd bite the bullet and go into the belly of the beast. However I'd never stop Leetcoding and interview while still in there due to that possible PIP around the corner.
Which team?
I almost started to think it’s all folklore, or urban legend. It can’t be this bad and people still compete to join Amazon
Where are the Amazon fan boys: according to them, Amazon is tier 1, WLB is team dependent.
Change your company!!
