i am interviewing for a TSE (technical solutions engineer) role at Google. i did a hangouts hour long interview mainly on linux and general IT and networking a few months ago. After that I went onsite and did 3 interviews - one non technical, one coding, and one troubleshooting/technical. its been just under 2 weeks since i was onsite and the recruiter called me last night with feedback. He said that I did great and receieved strong feedback. Problem is, one of my interviewers didnt get to the linux/networking questions he was suppose to. Recruiter wants me to do an additonal hangouts interview on linux/networking (similar to my first hangouts interview) before submitting to HC. He said after HC it would go to offer stage (offer board/committee). I am excited but a bit nervous now that theres another interview coming up. Im happy I received strong feedback though and recruiter said it was all trending in the right direction. Recruiters explanation made sense to me but wanted to check in and see how normal it is to have an interview pre HC to boost your candidate profile.
This means that the recruiter doesn’t think there is enough supporting evidence to get you through the HC and wants to hopefully get the evidence through an additional interview before submitting. The HC is a black box, so this is your last chance to impress them. I would treat this as the most important round of interviews to make sure you get through HC. Good luck!
I heard it’s pretty common. Happened to my friend and he got in.
I had an extra one. They used it to determine my level I’m pretty sure.
Did it change pre and post last interview? What level did you end up getting and Yoe?
You don’t even formally know your level before you start so there’s no way to know it before your final interview. TC gives you a good guess.
It’s pretty normal, I got an extra. Completed my onsites, was put into HC, and then HC requested another. After that I passed HC a week later. I half-expected to have an additional requested though because three of my four onsites repeated multiple questions that the others had asked. Even then I thought that was weird and probably didn’t give enough info from me. HC they needed more info in a specific focus area and my final interview would be on that.
Ah wow that’s a quick turnaround time from additional interview to passing HC. My interviews were kind of similar. I’m not too surprised that the recruiter wants some other technical skills evaluated before HC.
Yes, it was SUPER fast... I had my follow up interview within 48 hours (manager requested someone specific and I made it work). Good luck!
I got an additional after the HC ..I felt one of my coding rounds was ok and that the interviewer was probably not calibrated.. got through the additional coding interview and cleared the HC second time.
Were you asked coding questions? If so were they easy, medium or hard. How was the troubleshooting round?
Additional interview was coding round..same level as previous onsite question.I wrote more cleaner code and covered edge cases too.also, my onsite one coding interview couldn't complete solution, but had explained how I would code it. overall tried to perform better.. and I just got an offer 😊
Congrats!! Would you say the coding round first time and now was easy medium or hard? What resources would you recommend I use to prepare?
Can you please share TC and distribution of TC. As well what city? Really appreciate it!

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
I believe this is normal if the HC thinks the questions were not hard enough or they were not on the right topic. Good luck OP
