Why is it so hard? I have valuable experience and have a BS as well. I’ve applied to over 20 positions and haven’t gotten a call from a single one. What could be the issue?

If you’re not getting any calls, I think it’s time to review your resume.

I had it reviewed and tweaked by someone in the company I’m trying to get in, with no luck. Worth hiring a resume writer? I really don’t think its that bad

Personally I don’t think resume writers are worth it. But I do think you should keep iterating on your resume. Try out new wordings, new keywords, etc as you go. That way there’s another variable changing in your search. Don’t take any one person’s advice or edits as gospel. Whatever get results.

Also, this may not be universal, but in my experience executive assistants tended to be folks with at least 5ish years of experience as admin associates or senior admin associates. Not saying it’s a hard req, but most of the exec assistants I see are folks familiar with our org + culture, or experienced in running offices for execs.

I don’t work in this field/function, but the progression for this at one of my prior companies was
Admin assistant > associate > sr associate (sometimes) > exec assistant > chief of staff. With branches off for folks who got into management.

Volume matters too. The more you apply the more likely to get some replies. Also key words. How long is your resume and how many years of experience? If you have less than 10 years experience it should be 1 page. Did you also work on your linkedin?

I would def shorten your resume if you only have 2 years experience… also, length of time within a single company is important as an admin, it shows commitment. As someone mentioned above, 5 years is generally what a hi tech company likes to see. Where are you applying? I’d gain more experience before trying to get in at a FAANG.

Try to get referrals. Redo your resume to be more results focused vs «  responsible for ».

Unfortunately even with referrals I get nothing. Tweaked my resume and still no interest :/ they’re out here hiring old people who can barely use a computer and overlooking someone young like me who is a computer wiz. I don’t get it
