Ever since I moved to USA I see a different, more aggressive and unpleasant approach taken by headhunters and recruiters. Working on an L1 Visa, job market is beyond my reach and that is explicitly stated on my LinkedIn profile page. Even the very first line underneath my name states: "Do not contact me with job offers". Yes, I also opted out explicitly. LIn has a form for that. It's not the problem that people still do. I'm used to seeing automated mails starting some of the time with "Hello {FirstName}s" etc and I just delete them. The problem is that I keep receiving pings. "Hey, I haven't heard from you" or "Did you get a chance to look at my last mail?", "We definitely should chat, mail me your availability" Etc. They keep bombarding me with pings. If I respond, they acknowledge this only to send another person after me, too (yes, now I have more folks from the same company mailing me - the original person "checking up if anything changed" and someone else who thinks they just found me). Amazon is the most notorious with that, but not the only company. Even telling them that I'll let them know if anything changes doesn't seem to help. So question that I have is: is this expected in USA to respond to every recruiter email repeating to them what they should have already read on the source page? I don't mind ignoring automated mails, but ignoring personal follow ups feels like jackass move, while replying gives contrary results to anticipated. How do you manage unwanted communication of that sort?
You could make a separate email acct to have them contact and only check it when you are in fact looking. But you’ll be happy if/when shits hits the fan and you need a new job, that headhunter will be your best friend (if they’re good)
Word! In this world, that can happen any day.
They are bottom feeders. Move it to the junk mail folder, so Gmail knows it is spam.
I just respond with a no and offer to connect with them on LinkedIn. It’s not worth it to try to build a personal connection. If they continue to email me, I just delete their emails unread. If they’re really persistent or start spamming me, they get blocked.
Why would you offer to connect with them on LinkedIn when you can just delete their emails?
Well, the theory is that it’s an easy way to expand my network so I show up in more searches. Also, it means I have a name to reach out to on the off chance I see a job I want at the company they work for. I should probably point out that I don’t respond to headhunters at all. Just recruiters from companies that might have actual jobs.
I just replied to one of them asking how much they're offering, they said something which is 25-30% of my TC plus benefits. Now I'm annoyed at myself.
Some of them just call me without any booking or notice. Even After i said I cannot talk, they don’t let me go. Stupid JobSprings.
I’m a recruiter in pharma and I get recruiters trying to recruit me for the type of roles I am currently trying to fill. So many dumbasses in this space but it also makes the good ones look like rockstars
Open communication channels with them, have them take you to lunch even if in the same area. You don’t have to bite (and right now you can’t), but knowing what’s on the market and being in touch with recruiters is not a bad thing.
I get called everyday by some Indian recruiter that mumbles on the other end. I usually like to fuck with them so they know not to call me
Dick
Listen buddy, you may get hot waifu material on the other end, but I only ever get the Indian male recruiters. Why can it never be a hot girl???
You are getting too much perhaps because you have too many connections. Don’t connect with people you don’t know or recruiters.
Thanks all for sharing. Yeah, I guess this could make sense to have a safety net for when things go south. I'll see how responding"no thanks" politely while offering connecting on LinkedIn works.
There’s no harm to be in contact. Always reply and stay in touch. Sometimes opportunities might open up in other countries, wouldn’t you want to know about those? Bud, it’s always better to be in a spot where you’re being approached. ✌🏽
