Did you turn down a fb offer for amzn?

If so, why?

I’ve got two very competitive offers from both companies. Amzn wouldn’t require me to move (Seattle), fb would (LA). The amzn project is established and I know for a fact the wlb is fine due to a colleague on the team. Fb project is in startup mode therefore much higher risk. Finally, even though fb offers 25% more monies, with CoL and CA tax the money is approximately the same.

Am I crazy for considering going to Amazon instead of fb? Both projects are interesting.

The $ is not the same if you take into consideration the benefits. Amazon 401k doesn't allow you to do mega backdoor Roth. If your salary is over the Roth income limit, working at Amazon means you'll miss out on an extra $27k/year that could have gone to your Roth IRA and grow tax freee. You cannot reverse rollover a traditional ira into your Amazon 401k either so you might not be able to do a regular backdoor Roth as well. The medical insurance plans are weak. Even on the standard plan, I got so much shit from Premera just to get an APAP machine.

As an Amazon employee, I would suggest you go to fb - mainly because while WLB can be good on the team now, things at Amazon change so fast than it can be different within the next month. I’ve heard great things about fb culture so I wouldn’t even think about it if I were you
