About to decide on the job (Entry Level SDE) offers from both places with the salary package for the job being offered at New Orleans (90k) is 15K more when compared to Miami (75k) .. Both companies are start-up based. However, I see the company in New Orleans not having great reviews on Glassdoor, heard about some layoffs last year, pretty much stagnant, I felt the company didn’t had a proper direction while they were explaining me about the projects, heard of micro-management, commute might probably take almost an hour one way (although some flexibility is there for work from home), never sponsored H1B for anyone before (but are willing to sponsor for me) When it comes to the company in Miami, the reviews were great, work culture and environment is great, one of the top companies in Florida when it comes to work environment (got to know about the company from my friend working there), encouraging entry level developers and also providing some training, the company has been expanding recently, filed H1B for some people earlier, 20 minutes to commute to work. Which one to choose??? #Miami #NewOrleans #tech #company #job #offer
If you just take a look at cost of living, the value of the New Orleans position is worth quite a bit more than the Miami position. However if you already felt like you had a foot out the door while interviewing in New Orleans, you probably shouldn't take that role.
Sounds like a lot of red flags for New Orleans. Go back to the Miami company and ask them to match?
I’m sure the Miami company doesn’t want to pay more than that at this time. (I asked them for a higher package earlier, but at this moment they were not willing to pay more) They said, I’d be a special case and if I perform well, after 3 months they would increase the pay.
Take Miami and hold them to the 90 days. Your quality of life is a lot more than your TC.
Neither is a tech hub, and if you are serious about a career in software you will have to move in 1-2 years to someplace like bay/seattle/nyc/austin. Having said that nola is a dope ass place where you can have loads of fun for 1-2 years (while also leetcoding after work)
Got it, my plan at this moment is to get into one of these companies as I hate the current work place. Then, once I start the job, I’ll start doing some leetcode and get into a better place ( SFo / Seattle / Austin )
What companies?
Sorry, but I dont want disclose at this time as I mentioned about one of the company in a negative tone... and regarding the other company, I came to know through my friend that the company wants to hire me, but officially I still need to get an offer letter.
Well that limits feedback too then cause it's blind (pun intended lol)
