I think it’s hilarious that even NBC tries to do its own streaming, but a bundle deal of Disney+ESPN+Hulu seems much more attractive compared to Netflix in terms of breadth of content and price(the basic disney bundle likely will only cost 15-20 bucks per month).
The Amazon video "channel" model makes sense to me. I watch Game of Thrones on prime video by adding the HBO channel, though I don't think it's worth what I paid and will likely cancel. I expect the streaming platforms to evolve in this direction. Instead of Disney+ or Marvel being their own streaming services I expect them to become "channels". Pay an add-on fee to get access to HBO, NFL, Marvel, or whatever content, in addition to a basic service. Netflix has resisted this for some reason but I bet they will rethink it if it gives them a way to retain all those subscribers. Then Disney and HBO shouldn't need to invest in a streaming platform, which they honestly aren't good at. They could let Netflix or Amazon build the infrastructure and just license their content as an add-on. I'd expect in the long run to be able to get the same add-ons through any streaming platform and get the same Marvel movies whether it's through Netflix or Amazon or someone else. As in, I can be a Netflix subscriber and get Marvel for an extra fee, or get the same Marvel channel through Amazon. But I think it'll take the industry ten years to evolve to that point.
Netflix has ~148M subscribers. I don’t think 2200 sample is good enough. “Survey on our site shows what 100% of people is using internet”
Depends on how the 2200 were selected. That's enough people to have 99% confidence with a 3% margin of error providing they were randomly selected.
Funny enough I just upgrade my Fios package and they offered me two years of Netflix free. So I just canceled my existing plan and switched to the “free” offer. I can see Netflix doing this to fluff up numbers like Spotify does with carrier deals.
Very interesting. Yeah I was thinking Netflix would also have to team up with other players or verticals.
I can't comment on specifics. But I can assure you usually it's the service provider that pays most of the bill in such promotions. Not the other way around.
70% of cable users said they'd cancel on a price hike and less than 10% actually follow through each time.
Netflix will be the basic package, and every niche service like HBO and Disney+ will be an add-on.
This is turning into cable on the internet...streaming was supposed to be the solution, not turn into the same shit.
lol well said “cable on the internet”
