Anyone have any experience, recommendations. Really considering it. Sick of worrying about low level details. Pre sales role would carry a bigger bonus. No quota. Current title: cloud architect, I handle some presales of services
It sounds as if you have been in direct customer interactions in a sales cycle, but not in a presales role? I’d give it a shot, it’s great out there, if you can handle the stress. What most people in engineering roles are unaware of is that the closer you get to the deal makers, the more stressful it can be. That’s because the situations are much more chaotic and volatile, the people much more driven and the messages more “hopeful” to say it nicely. Try it! And the no quota is a bit naive. You’ll have a target order entry in SAP (if that’s where you work) in such a revenue enabling role, it’s your boss’s job to decide if he wants to enforce.
Yes the role is professional services supporting sales services. Stress is what I am trying to lower currently I work on 5-6 implementations at once, along with a few sales cycles...it’s mentally draining, with very little reward.
No quota, until there’s a quota. Then you get to worry about that.
