I was down leveled at Google to L3 while having a L4 offer with Facebook. Google was not able to match Facebook but felt that I would be promoted soon. I eventually took Google L3 offer with the hopes of being promoted soon. A year later my promotion was approved, however the pay bump still leaves a gap from my Facebook offer last year. Facebook has reinstated the previous offer. Google: Still determining new pay after promotion Current Base 140000 (possible 6% increase now promotion is approved) Stocks: 260000 (possibly refresh of 60k this Dec) 15% bonus Facebook Base: 167000 Stocks: 360000 Sign on: 75000 10% bonus I like what I am doing at Google and I was just given TL responsibilities and get to contribute to open source Android platform. However at Facebook I'll be joining the bootcamp program and I am not sure what teams I'll get to join. The plus is that Facebook is more wfh friendly. Total yoe: 3.5 this dec
I would stay with Google as with your tech lead responsibilities, within 1-2 years you can get much higher. You'll learn a lot and grow also. Even e5 What's your total yoe
Yeah, this is my first TL opportunity. I'll be 3.5 yrs this dec
Yoe?
3.5 yrs this dec
TL responsibility at L3? Which PA are you in?
Can't disclose too much for anonymity...android platform though
Both your TC and level will grow faster at FB, so go there if that's your main priorities. You can reinterview/negotiate the FB offer since you are more experienced now.
Really not in the mindset for reinterviewing...my fb recruiter told me last year that this was top of the band for e4....I know it's true 'cause other folks have had e4 offers this year that was less than mine.
Go to E4.
Go to FB!
FB is much more fast paced fyi
FB!!
FB E4 has open positions now?
No. I heard q1/q2 2021
Assuming that you don't care too much about the ethics or the impact. At FB you would be making or contributing towards product which are unproductive to human and humanity at a bigger picture. Unlike Google where most products aims to increase human productivity and make life better like maps , gmail, search , chrome etc. The impact on society is exact opposite by two companies. If you are ok that what you would work can cause misinformation, roits, hate speech, genocide, politics bias (recent Biden email) etc. then definitely FB.
I think connecting people to each other is as important as connecting people to information. It turns out that humans put bad contact on the FB platform. That IS humanity. As far as the business, both FB and G optimize for the bottom line, and want clicks/attention. I think your assessment is a little unfair.
That’s exactly why I work for Facebook - I get paid well and I don’t care about ethics
