I have been at Bloomberg for some time. I haven't changed teams within Bloomberg in this time. I have an offer from Google and it makes sense to switch. Am I missing something by not exploring other teams in Bloomberg ?
Go
Fly you fool
If it’s in NYC definitely
You know what to do... see you soon.
What's TC vs offer??
What's your offer and experience?
Consider everything... 1) money (stupid to refuse an offer that is twice more than you make now - but be careful about the stock compensation - read about the vesting and taxes. In BBg you get cash) 2) what you want to do (there s quite a number of teams that do cutting edge stuff in BBg ...but likely at Google there will be more opportunities like that) 3) what makes you happy (for example if you enjoy owning the product end to end - bbg def has more of it : from an idea to a sold product. At Google you will typically be a part of a larger group of people where the impact you make is ...less quantifiable.) 4) work life balance - not much difference 5) food - G is the winner
What’s to be careful about stock? It vests multiple times a year vs once/twice a year cash bonus (oh you get cash bonus at google too). When it vests it’s w2 income, you sell and get cash. Same as cash bonus. And it’s google stock. Tied to company performance just like cash bonus is tied to company performance.
To add to #1 : stock compensation has one big advantage - it s motivating ! You do better - company does better, company does better you financially do better. Technically, you could take the cash given to you by Bbg and buy some stock - which essentially translates into the same outcome. But it s not same at the personal level in terms of 'i want to do better to make my company better and make more money' IMHO
Except at Google you can get a 150k in stock. When was the last time your Bloomberg bonus, after tax, was anywhere near that?
True, not arguing. But let's be honest - the base in Bloomberg could be 100k more than base in G and FB. But even considering that, I still think G and FB compensations are better in the long-term. BTW the difference in base is a very important point if one chooses to live in NYC .. especially if you have a family. Monthly expenses could be very high here.
Bbg is too small of a company for IT so politics will matter more to move up and bbg is not a meritocracy its very political. In tech giants their whole business is IT so u have more opportunities. Go tech giant.
you'll miss filling a PRQS to do any damn thing.
