Im interested in moving into UX Research. Most lf thr courses I’m finding online are geared toward UX design. Any advice on the best way to learn UX Research and build my portfolio? #ux
Yeah, research is no joke. Also, there’s qual research which maybe you could take some courses on but when you toss in the quant research side of things, it’s a lot tougher. Most of the researchers I work with now have PhDs in things like human-computer interaction. I’ve worked with combo UX designers/resesrchers in the past who did some qual research as part of their design process, but they’re better as two separate roles as they each require specialization.
Im definitely not considering quant research, just qual. Interesting, i’ve read quite a few articles saying that experience matters more than the education. As in, the years i spend completing a masters I could be spending working on my portfolio and that employers would prefer experience. Any thoughts on that?
That’s fairly true. Qual roles are more flexible on education requirements than quant. The best way to get an idea of what your chances might be is to go on LinkedIn and see how degreed the Research team is.

There are a few classes, but most people go to grad school in some type of applied social science or human factors engineering. You need statistics, cognitive science and research methods.
Oh wow! I guess to have my best chances I should go to grad school
