I'm considering changing companies for relocation purposes during my parental leave because my team doesn't allow working remotely. I wasn't able to find anything suitable for OOM internally and found something external instead. Does anyone know if switching companies during parental leave comes with any repercussions / stuff I need to pay back? I wasn't able to find anything from my searches and my matrix rep told me there isn't anything I'd owe. I've loved being at Salesforce and it's been the best company in my career so maybe I'll try to boomerang back in thw future. Obligatory 10 y.o.e and current TC $200k
What if they fired you while you were on leave? Loyalty is a big word, but it’s an asshole move on your part.
It is, but I have to do what I think is best for my family. Thanks for your input.
As long as they gave me 2 weeks notice, fine. Most employers don't so?
Are you the mom giving birth? Is this your first? The reason I ask is because I started a new job 3 months after giving birth and it was a huge mistake. Wish I had stayed home much longer. Turns out being chronically sleep deprived severely affects your work performance and since it was a new team I had no good will to carry me over.
Thanks for your kind words. I'm actually a dad, but sleep deprived nonetheless. A bit nervous about the new role myself as I'd be taking on something with many more responsibilities. But I'm sure you were/will be able to bounce back to your usual self once you get used to being sleep deprived! (Took my first kid about 2 years to mostly sleep through the night)
Yeah for us it was 15 months but then there's regressions and teething 😬
You should def talk with your HR/comp team. It is funny because I have gone through this same experience. I was on parental leave when my 2nd was born and switched companies. You do not owe them anything aka loyalty. Employment is at will and as long as you were a responsible employee and put in your 2 weeks and made the work transition to a peer, you're fine. You have a better opportunity to improve your family's lives, go for it.
Ha I'm actually considering because of my second kid as well. Yeah, I'm thinking of going for it at this point.
