I got a FB offer which is almost 100k higher than my current comp in Google with the signing bonus. Current comp as L4: - Base: 157k - Bonus: 29.5k - Equity ~80k/year FB offer as E4: - Base: 167k - Bonus 16.7k - Equity: 100k/year - Sign in bonus: 75k I have already thought about switching teams within Google since I have been in the same team for a bit over 3 years, but now that I have this offer I am wondering if I should switch over. After the 1st year the difference would not be that much without the sign in bonus. Has anyone made this switch or the other way around? I know it highly depends in the team you join but I want to know how is it working in FB compared to Google.
Also how is this 100k higher? (Only for first year because of sign on)
Yeah only on the 1st year
This looks like basically a lateral move in terms of comp. Ok maybe not exactly a lateral move but pretty close percentage-wise. You're talking about around a 7% raise after the first year. You may as well make the switch if you know you want to switch companies, but that kind of difference in compensation wouldn't be enough to get me to move from somewhere where I already know I'm happy.
RIP WLB 💀💀
I think that doing a lateral switch is not worth it IF the only reason you are doing it is the extra $$$. If you wanted to learn how to execute quickly and build your end to end skillset for the future then it may be worth switching. It is said that projects Google would throw 3-5 engineers at, Facebook would throw 1 engineer at. This is more work but it may represent of agrowth opportunity.
Dont count signing and its not 100k. I dont think most ppl count signing in tc
Anyways not worth it due to risk of bad wlb, if you have it good right now.
WLB at FB is like google, there are really chill teams and there are really intense ones. It’s a big company. Luckily at FB you get to choose your team during bootcamp, so you can control this. Also E4->E5 timeline is way better at FB and isn’t as hard to make happen.
I think google allows returning without interview, can’t you like go there for a year take that 75k sign on n come back? Not sure if 75k is worth the hassle for you
^
Yeah, I have heard there are Alumni recruiters that contact ex-googlers.
Worth it if your goal is to promo E5 because it's significantly easier here. Otherwise no
At 7 Yoe you should get a E5
