I’ve been in medical device industry for 4 years working as a Quality Engineer. I’ve good manufacturing experience and I’m really hands on. What will be the best way to change industry? What specific skills do I need to make the transition?
If you don’t have US citizenship, it’s hard to get a job in the aerospace industry.
Wrong. You only need a green card for civil aerospace. You will need citizenship for defense/clearance.
Legal status is not an issue. All good there.
Why aerospace?
I did the same, switched from medical to SpaceX. Both industries have similar quality, reliability, and system design concepts. Aerospace is less risk averse and in my experience better at designing and building real things because they have a more productive relationship with regulator and customer stakeholders. Sell sell sell your experience, it's highly relevant!
Would be a seamless transition, look at job description closely and see how you can map your experiences to each bullet point. No aero experience needed
Shouldn’t be a problem if you are a swe but I doubt about all other roles. To begin with, there’s no huge demand for engineers in aerospace, secondary different regulators, etc. I might be wrong … so good luck! 🍀
Thank you all for the responses! Are there any specific skill sets that I should be focusing on?
Apply
Applying and interviewing actively.
