I am currently working at LinkedIn. It is going to be be 1 year at LI. This is my first job in the US. I have seen many people switch jobs here in the bay area very frequently. Does switching jobs help? If yes, then how does it help - career growth, money? After what time frame should one consider switching jobs? Also, to people working at FB, Google and Uber, how has your experience been there?
If you are getting what you need from your current company (learning new things, getting raises and promotions, solving cool problems that matter) then stay. If not, then go somewhere else that offers those things. Change for the sake of change though is not going to be fulfilling or get you where you want to go.
Thanks for your input. Everything is working out well until now. I have seen people in the bay area change just for the sake of increasing their TC and so needed opinions of other people.
Just leave already.
Don’t job-hopp, other companies will think you’re loyal to your pay slip only. If you like your job then stay. As long as you’re able to pay all bills a pay increase doesn’t make you happier on the long run. BUT: A bigger pay raise is more likely if you switch companies. Internal promotions lead to smaller pay raises. Wish you all the best!
I did job hop all my career and it paid off big. I wouldn't get to 360k tc in another 3 years if I hadn't. Getting promotion in top companies is hard, jumping ship to next level is easy. I jumped levels 2 times and I'm happy I did. I changed 5 companies in 6 years (yes stayed in 2 of those less than a year).
This info is super helpful. I just feel that my options for companies I can go to the from LinkedIn are very limited. Fb, Google, Uber. I guess that's it. Would need to try these only. Do you know of others?
Not sure. Maybe Airbnb, Netflix, Amazon... I wouldn't go to those though. I don't even go to FB but that's a personal choice.

Google CFO confirms 'large-scale' layoffs (Apr 17)
Stay at ur first job for at least 2.5 years unless your current job sucks or if other company offers are significantly better. With 2.5 years, you can apply for higher level roles in other companies. Switching now means, you join as entry level and need to start over basically
I feel that makes sense and is a great suggestion.
