Switching teams

Does T-Mobile has open culture of letting your manager know that you are interested in switching teams? I spoke to 3-4 hiring managers and all of them told me to talk to manager and apply officially on the portal. Can I not switch internally without letting my manager know? Please advise me on the same.. PS I am pissed off with my current team and want to switch asap!

My experience has been that the culture is very open. You do have to formally apply and go through interview loops. No way to change roles without manager finding out.

Yes. Talk to your manager. How far of a switch are you looking? Same Director? Same VP?

If you have to officially apply, notifications go to your current manager. Can’t avoid that so talk to your manager before you apply.

Talk with your manager first and let them know you're intention to apply for open reqs. There are 2 ways, 1 is to RDP, the other is to directly apply. Fyi- I've seen many, many times managers block their direct reports from leaving. Ultimately your manager has to approve you leaving the team, whether the hiring manager/hr approves or not. Manager has to sign off first, then hiring manager has to approve, then HR does their paper pushing.
