I'm wondering what the expectations are for a full stack engineer with my YOE at other Bay Area companies (FAANG, stripe, Zuora, Visa etc). At my level I don't have too much system design experience but I am aware of resources like Designing Data Intensive Systems, system design primer on GitHub. I'm wondering what level of knowledge and expertise I should expect in interviews and how much leniency I'd have in not knowing something? Thanks. TC: more than you think, less than we all want

Sadly given the competitive nature of recruiting, anyone else with similar yoe can by sheer luck know more and raise the bar for system design. That isn’t to say there’s no leniency, but there’s always a high possibility that someone whack just spends each waking moment learning about these things, on top of being an LC champ. Given that, it’s wisest to overprepare and be ready to be underwhelmed in interviews.
Thank you. It's the bitter truth I didn't want to hear but can accept. I started grinding LC but system design caught me by surprise.
