Advice : Checklist for moving back (for good) to India
We took a decision to move back to India for good, and planning to settle in Pune. I am looking for some advise on following
1. Bank and brokerage accounts : Can one manage bank and broker accounts remotely from India or it’s better to transfer all funds spread across few years to indian account (NRE) ? Should we close all bank accounts here ? (As one need to maintain monthly balance )Most of my comp is in RSUs and i haven’t sold any stock yet and there is a good chance that I might sell it when I move back to India
2. 401 k : Should one pay 10% penalty and take out all funds in 401k or keep it there for a while
3. Mail forwarding : I am expecting W-2 etc. and I don’t have anyone in US where I can forward those mails ? Is it possible to forward imp mails to India ? What other options are there ?
4. Tax : How one can file tax from India ?
5. Credit cards : should one close all credit cards ? As they will be somehow tied to bank accounts for funding, if I choose to close bank accounts then I am not sure how I can pay the credit cards
6. Healthcare Flexible Spending/HSA etc : if we have some funds in account can we use that in India for medical purpose ?
It would be great if I get some advise on following as well
7. Company/Role : I have two kids now and it’s clear that I will not able to spend enough time with my family , not sustainable . So I am looking for middle management role in Pune area not as intense as amazon, any recommendation ?
8. Schools : any recommendations on good schools in Pune ?
9. neighborhood : I lived in kothrud and would love to live there or nearby such as karve nagar , but I don’t think there is any new constructions or project in area ? Any new projects have you seen ? How’s baner and aundh , read in news later that they have water issues or infrastructure issues
Thanks in advance

Ask new ones and you’ll get pretty quick and useful responses.
Keep an open mind and don’t get swayed, after all it’s your (and your family) decision at the end of the day.
