Directors at Roblox
I am interviewing for a senior eng manager role at Roblox. I have ~14 years experience (~6 years in leadership role). I don’t feel comfortable sharing the team to stay anonymous because I am negotiating the offer now and could be identified. I am also negotiating an offer with Amazon and Google, both L7. My questions to @roblox folks: Are most of your directors internally promoted or externally hired at that level? If the latter, do they come from reputable tech companies already operating at director level? I am asking the question for two reasons: 1. To see if I have a chance to be considered a director (ok with more interviews) 2. The level of people I will work with or report to. My hiring manager is a VP. I have learned from experience that reorg happens often, and might report to a director sooner or later. Thank you so much. PS: I browsed some Roblox LinkedIn profiles, I really like what I see so far, especially many people seem to have good career progression/promotion at Roblox. TC: ~900k
I don't think Amazon L7 would give you anywhere close to your current TC. Google may come close to matching it, of you ace all the interviews and they really really want you. Otherwise 900K is typically more in the L8 range for new hires.
G l7 is way better than the other two.
Can Roblox get to 900K for senior manager?

Amazon L7 won’t be close to that
Very few people internally were promoted to director. However, our directors do have a great pedigree, especially recent hires. You’ll be in great company but should not plan for a promotion anytime soon.

Not really answering your question, but don’t waste your time interviewing for L7 at Amazon if your current TC is $900k. That’s easily L8 money at Amazon, ie Director managing a 100+ person org
I thought so initially but some recent L7 IC offers seem to reach 800-900 range.
L7 here, I make well above $1M. Target TC maxes out between 800k and 900k depending on Bay Area vs. Seattle and IC vs. manager. External offers can go 10-15% over for top talent (i.e. FAANG folks with many options, which you seem to have). Internally promoted L7s are around 500k though, which is where a lot of this data comes from.
