Currently, I have the feeling so many are leaving Tableau and what astonish me the most is that the majority is not going to take a role at Salesforce but outside of the company.

Do you have the same feeling and what do you think makes people leave the whole company?
Where do most of your colleagues leave to?

I was at tableau in 2014, 2015, and 2016, and tons of my friends work/worked there.

What happened was leadership transition, lack of direction, and washing out the company culture

People worshipped Christian because he was insanely passionate about leading tableau, which he founded. When he got replaced by AWS guy, it was a big blow. It was a hostile takeover. Employees were loyal to Christian, weren’t happy to see AWS man, but made it work. The original employees were still being treated well. Then after the SalesForce acquisition, people were optimistic for the future, because Salesforce told tableau that they could operate independently. Turned out that wasn’t the case, and Salesforce began shoving their shit down tableau’s throats.

For many years, tableau promoted from within and took care of their people. Now Tableau is taking managers from Salesforce and pushing them as directors/VPs to Tableau, and the original tableau leadership is getting shit on. The OG tableau people are jumping ship.

Resting and vesting is boring after a while. I have several friends at Tableau/Salesforce and all I hear is how boring/slow it is and I think that a lot of engineers are really smart humans who want to be challenged

I love Tableau as a product btw
