I have been working as a QA Engineer for the last 7 years. Lots of automation experience and have worked on developing test automation framework. I am now looking to switch because of shitty compensation and boring work. What are my options? What TC can I expect ? Is it feasible for me to move to SDET or Sr SDET roles ? How much leet code should I prep for interviews ? Total experience: 14+ years Super old technology dev : 5.5 years As manual tester : 1.5 years As QA automation : 7 years
Does not matter qa / sdet ... put the job title as per company requirement
Smart. But will it cause an issue during the background check?
Mainframe ??? How old r u?
Tc?
Base 87000 + RSU 20k vested over a 4 year timeframe
You have a lot of options, in fact you can go to any company you want. Everywhere they have positions for Sdet or QA engg. Try in google, amazon, fb, apple etc. Oracle is a good brand and will get you calls. But you need to practice leetcode, at least all easy ones because good companies ask coding questions.
OP, DM me. I'm hiring SDETs at Amazon. We can talk.
I suggest two options for your situation - move to developer role and get good TC or move to management role get much better TC. :) For developer role - Is it feasible for me to move to SDET or Sr SDET roles ? - Yes How much leet code should I prep for interviews ? - solve at least 200 questions Total experience: 14+ years - Transfer to internal team first and change the title to something generic which will be useful for career moves. If You did Automation and wrote some code , you can easily move to the development role. For manager role - with your 14 + yoe try for a manager role and change the direction little bit, I saw many successful managers in the FAANG also from QA back ground. Take a bold move. Hope this helps.
Thank you for advice . It makes a lot of sense although I am.not sure if I am cut out to be a manager. I cant deal with politics and managing people's aspirations etc. I think I am better off in a technical role where the only thing I have to manage is code. I hate people. LOL Also I thought a senior dev would make more money than a manager. Is that not the case anymore ?
Depends on the company the new generation companies like Lyft, Uber Facebookpay more to the managers
You are already SDET if you are working on building automation frameworks . May be you need to jump ship to increase TC.
My role dosent say SDEt in my current company. Plus the TC is way too low. Wont that matter while jumping ship?
