I see a lot of TC posted here $300k+, and people saying they save ~$200k a year. Are you all engineers? Are there other professions that can earn that much? I have 15 years of experience, employed as a project manager, and i thought i was doing well with TC 180k
Not me 🍿
even people at a million a year get dwarfed by other people. but year in engineering i think 400-500k yr is doable at 30
When you say doable, do you mean it exists, or it's possible for most engineers to reach this income?
You have to be good and play the game, but plenty of people make that. I know a lot of people that make in that range at 30.
I had same question. 12 YOE, 2 masters degree from USA, TC:130k. Often seeing these blind posts, I ask myself am I that underpaid? Who are you $300k people?
Other pros make more than that at a fraction of stress level

Design can. I feel like product manager can too.
Design? No way, or not common.
I interviewed with eBay, visa, Expedia, other startups, only for product manager roles. Most of their TC was max $130k.
at FANG/Unicorns, SWE can get 200K @ 0yoe, 300K @ 2yoe, 400K @ 4-5yoe, etc At top HFT/HF it can be double these numbers.
How is their TC 300k and after taxes (fed tax rate is 35%) their take home is 195k, without state taken into consideration...how could they save 200k+ a year? They have monthly expenses so if someone is claiming what you stated above I’d feel like they are exaggerating.
I imagine (assumed) he meant he sees those types of posts on blind, not necessarily the same people/posts ie. Some people say they have 300TC and other people say they have 200 savings. Not necessarily someone has 300 TC and 200 savings. Because yes that’s unreasonable and clearly not true
I'll be impressed by 300k that isnt in the bay area. Location matters people.
Because more than half of that number comes from stock...
Ah! I work in real estate development so all of my compensation is salary and bonuses upon project completion.
In a public company it really doesn't matter. It's equivalent to cash when it vests.
