Being asked expected TC before starting the interview process (have 15 YoE in IT, but not all in development), they don't specify level of SDE. I am not from the states, so not sure of the level I would consider myself. Any advice on what to shoot for?, I am thinking about upper L5, to L6. How much would that be considering my YoE in TC?
Start with L7 and they will downgrade you to L6. Your TC should be atleast 280K at L6
How would that breakdown? Base, bonus etc.. ?
If you settle for L5 then u will feel frustrated everyday when u will see half of the people at L5 will be 10 years younger than you. Getting promotion from L5 to L6 is quite difficult and it depends on a lot of factors other then tech skills
Agree! I would rather not join Amazon. If you cleared Amazon, you could pretty much clear other companies as well and they can easily match the stated salary. Also agree on going from L5 to L6 is hard. Going from L6 to L7 is well...
About 10 years in IT, less than 2 years as a developer, got L5.
I would say you expect market rate for the role and level. Don't get yourself boxed into a range before even doing interviews.
http://levels.fyi It has levels as well as YOE. What you will find is that the numbers are all over the place though. People get down-leveled all the time. With that said, I think anyone with more than 7 years of dev experience should aim for L6 (even if they get brought down)
Yeah, looking at that site, and some other threads here, I guess I should shoot at least to L6, thanks
